CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its postseason awards on Wednesday with Western Michigan volleyball sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Bontrager earning First-Team All-MAC honors as voted on by the leagues' head coaches.
Bontrager led the Broncos and ranked third in the MAC with 435 kills, averaging 3.75 per set. Nationally the Valparaiso, Ind., native ranked 27
th in total kills (435), 15
th in total points (497.5) and 13
th in total attacks (1,309). Bontrager's 1,309 attacks ranks as the sixth most in a single-season in school history.
The sophomore outside hitter registered a team-high 13 double-doubles and had four in the final six matches. Bontrager registered double-digit kills in 27 of the 31 matches this season with a season-high 23 kills on Oct. 12 versus Buffalo.
Along with the 435 kills, Bontrager had 21 service aces, 316 digs and 56 blocks. In two seasons for the Broncos the sophomore has amassed 855 kills, 601 digs and 109 blocks in 239 sets played.
It's the second postseason conference award for Bontrager who was named to the All-Freshman team last season. Bontrager extends the streak of 15 straight years the Broncos have had at least one player earn First Team All-MAC honors.
