"We play a tough schedule for a reason, this stretch of matches will prepare us for our league schedule," head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "Our next three matches are against really good teams, in order to beat good teams, you need everyone to show up and compete. We will look to get healthy and work on some things before our home match on the 24th against Michigan State."
Iowa claimed the doubles point and took an early 1-0 lead, then followed that up with three straight wins to open singles play to clinch the match. The Broncos kept battling even though the team's result was decided, with WMU winning all three remaining singles matches.
Senior Tracy Kuhle put WMU on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Douglas, sophomore Denise Azcui continued her impressive spring with another win, this one coming over Crawford 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 while sophomore Melina Lyubomirova earned a nice win at No. 1, defeating Van Heuvelen 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
WMU will take a weekend off and return to action on Friday, Feb. 24 as Michigan State visits Kalamazoo. Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club.
