BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up competition at the Gladstein Invitational on Saturday afternoon, with WMU turning in highlights in the 200-meter dash, 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay.
"Overall I think we are moving in the right direction," said head coach Kelly Lycan on the team's performance through the first three meets.
Two Broncos competed in the fast section of the 200-meter dash and turned in quality times. Senior Sarita Dotson finished with a time of 24.62 seconds to take sixth place and fourth collegiately. It's the first time this season under the 25 second mark for the reigning 200-meter Mid-American Conference Champion. Naiomi Dulaney, despite battling illness, ran a time of 25.30 seconds.
Dulaney, Dotson, Lindsey Hufnagel and Ayiana Gaines combined to run a time of 3:45.65 in the 4x400-meter relay, taking second overall. The squad knocked a lot of time off of the previous season best after Gaines turned on the jets to take the team from fourth to second in the final leg.
Sarah Anderson once again performed well, winning the open 800-meter run after a time of 2:14.81, a personal best.
Western Michigan takes its third-straight trip to a Big 10 school as it travels to the University of Minnesota for the Jack Johnson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
