Broncos Wrap Up Day One at Gladstein Invitational and GVSU Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., -- The Western Michigan track and field wrapped up the first day of competition at Indiana University's Gladstein Invitational late Friday evening, while also competing at the Grand Valley State Open in Allendale, Mich.

The top finish of the day at the Gladstein came from junior distance runner Hanne Christensen in the 5,000-meter run. The Grand Blanc, Mich., native took third overall with a time of 17:39.36, an indoor personal best. Redshirt freshman Sarah Anderson continued her strong start to the indoor season. Anderson took over 10 seconds off of her previous personal-best in the mile run, taking eighth place with a time of 4:57.03.

Over at Grand Valley Savanna Dugan turned in a new personal best in the weight throw, throwing a distance of 52' 2.5" to take seventh place. She also took third in the shot put with a distance of 42' 10.75" for eight total points at the meet. Brittany Casey and Sam Howard also both turned in personal bests in the weight throw.

Freshman Erica Sheahan had three personal bests in the 60-meter dash (8.08), 200-meter dash (26.42) and long jump (17' 4"). Fellow freshman Alex Bryant also had a personal best in the 200 with a time of 26.73 seconds and in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.33.

The squad is back at it again on Saturday with events beginning at Indiana at 10:30 a.m.
