WMU - Miami Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Steve Hawkins

Opening statement

“Incredibly disappointing night, both teams struggled to shoot the ball. I thought both defenses played well but the game was decided at the free-throw line. They went 21-of-28 we went 11-of-18, they outscored us by 11 at the line. We just couldn't get to the free-throw line, we have had these types of games this year and we have talked to our guys that when we are not shooting well we have to drive and get points in the paint or get to the line and we didn't do that enough tonight. When we did get there we only made 11, we just needed a couple more."

On Drake LaMont and Seth Dugan getting into foul trouble

"It definitely breaks up your rotation, when you have foul trouble with your starter at the five and the backup. We had some adversary in the game that we had to try and manage, foul trouble  can break-up your rhythm. We also had some close looks in the paint tonight that we just missed and a lot of that you have to give Miami credit for."

On Offensive performance

"I thought we settled for too many jump shots the first half and in the second half Miami packed the paint. We knew going in one of the keys to the game would be handling Miami's defensive switches, because they switch defenses often. I thought sometimes our guys were caught trying to identify Miami's defense.

It just seemed like whenever we started to catch a rhythm something would happen that would throw us back out of rhythm. We didn't do a good enough job with the things we had in our control and we didn't overcome the things out of our control. That is how you end up with another one-point loss."

On defensive performance

"They only had five offensive rebounds, they only shot 33 percent from the field, turned the ball over 15 times and only score 45 points those are defensive numbers that you win with. Defense wasn't the problem tonight or against Ball State."

Sophomore Point-Guard Thomas Wilder

On last shot

“Coach told me if they miss the free-throw go get the ball and get a bucket and I just didn't do that.

On offensive performance

"I really don't know what the difference was tonight offensively, we just cannot let it affect our defense."

On what to take away

Every possession is important you have to treat each possession like it is the last. We just have to keep working that is all you can do.
