Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich.- Western Michigan's offense was slowed up in the second half in a 73-62 loss at Eastern Michigan Tuesday night.

"There were two big runs that decided the game," WMU head coach Steve Hawkins said. "We got off to a decent start, but then started turning the ball over. Give it to Eastern Michigan, their zone was very lengthy and we just didn't deliver it to where we needed to."

EMU held Western Michigan leading scorer Thomas Wilder to just 10 points and only three Broncos reached double digits scoring. Wilder entered the game averaging a conference-best 21.2 points per game during Mid-American Conference games.

Sophomore center Drake LaMont recorded a team-high 13 points for the Broncos and freshman guard Bryce Moore tallied 11.

Junior forward Tucker Haymond entered the contest with 994 career points and reached the 1,000-point milestone on a layup with 4:27 remaining in the first half. He became the 40th men's basketball player in Western Michigan history to accomplish the feat. Haymond finished with nine points.

Willie Magnum had a game-high 16 points for Eastern Michigan, scoring 11 points in the second half and going 4-for-6 from behind the arc. James Thompson IV totaled 16 points and eight rebounds.

WMU trailed 31-28 at halftime and was outscored 42-34 in the second half. Eastern Michigan led by two, 45-43 with 13:16 remaining and went on a 12-1 run to open a double-digit lead the Broncos couldn't recover from. WMU committed 10 of its 18 turnovers in the second half.

Western Michigan (11-17, 5-10 MAC) shot 42 percent from the floor and was 3-for-14 from behind the arc. Eastern Michigan (15-13, 7-8 MAC) hit 51.9 percent from the field and 6 of 17 three-points attempts. The Eagles owned a plus-eight advantage off of turnovers, but WMU dominated EMU 13-2 in second-chance points.

The Broncos and Eagles have split their two meetings this season, with each team winning on its home floor. WMU posted a 94-86 win in Kalamazoo on Jan. 30.

Western Michigan heads to Northern Illinois (18-10, 7-8 MAC) Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. ET tip-off with the Huskies. The Brown & Gold returns home next Tuesday, March 1, to host Toledo at 7 p.m.
