WMU - Kent State Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Steve Hawkins

“We got what we deserved, we knew coming in what the keys to the game were. We needed to limit our turnovers and keep them out of transition. We also needed to keep them off the offensive glass. We had 19 turnovers which led to 28 points and we gave up 16 points off of their offensive rebounds that is the game right there. In the half court we guarded them well for the most part, but transition gave us a real problem.”

On Thomas Wilder

“Thomas has to do a lot for us, as offensively talented as he is we are asking him to do a lot and he is our best lockdown defender on the perimeter. He is pretty explosive, but he needs to cut down on the turnovers.”

On turnovers and offensive rebounds

"When you turn the ball over to a team like this you might as well just pass to them, they are that good in transition. The thing I am most disappointed in is giving up offensive rebounds. We are just too nice as a basketball team right now, we just have to get nastier and play with more of an edge on rebounds especially in a game like this. That was where the game was won.”

Sophmore Guard Thomas Wilder

“We have to be better on the defensive end and rebounding… you can't turn the ball over that many times and expect to win. We just did not execute in overtime.”

Junior Guard Tucker Haymond

On offensive game plan

“We like to attack and other than a couple shots I feel like we were getting good looks… Thomas had some good looks and made the shot to send us into overtime. We just have to knock down shots. I missed some easy shots that I should have made out there.”

On turnovers

"Turnovers were the big key to how they were able to get going offensively, I have to take care of the ball better… We have to take better care of the ball better.

On moving forward

"All loses are hard, but MAC losses have a heavier load. It is one game, we need to get better and move forward.”
