WMU - Eastern Michigan Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Steve Hawkins

Opening Statement

“Obviously a much needed win, I thought we played very well offensively by sharing the ball. I think we had a solid first half defensively but during the second half we broke down at some points, but that also had to do with Eastern Michigan being more aggressive. We had 20 assists on 29 buckets ... we shared the ball very well."

On Thomas Wilder's Performance

“What can you say about Thomas ... he was huge for us today. We went deep into the shot-clock a few times and Thomas bailed us out. He knocked down some big shots especially when they were able to cut the lead, Thomas was the one who responded consistently."

On Offensive Success Against Eastern Michigan

“We watched film from last year and cut up some tape where we had some success and were able to get the guys in position but they still have to knock down shots. Our guys have to play with confidence and take shots within the flow of the offense and we did that today. We were aggressive, we wanted to play the game forward not backward."

On Upcoming Road Trip in the Mid-American Conference

“Everybody is capable of beating everybody in this conference, we have to hit the road and take some consistency with us. Today we won the game offensively. At the end we were just trading baskets, but at some point we need to get some stops and put the game away with our defense.”

Junior Guard Tucker Haymond

“We knew it was important to get this win, every MAC game is important but we really needed this one. We have to be tough on the road and play our brand of basketball, I feel if we play our roles on the team and just do our jobs it will be tough for a lot of teams to stop us.”

Sophomore Point-Guard Thomas Wilder

“In practice coach kept preaching that we need to put it all together and play hungry and we did."

On Double-Double

“I just let the game come to me, the first half I felt I didn't have open shots and just needed to get my team involved and then in the second half shots started to open up for me. I didn't even know I had a double-double I was just taking what they gave me and the ball bounced my way on the rebounds. I didn't do anything different than I always do.”
