WMU - Northern Illinois Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Steve Hawkins
Opening statement
“Obviously a much needed win, we had our backs against the wall early here in the conference season. We had a very tough test on our hands with one of the best teams in the conference tonight and our guys responded. The guys played hard and we finally put together 40 minutes of basketball. We played aggressive and shared the ball.”
On the flagrant two and ejections
"That wasn't the story of the game. I have a ton of respect for Mark (Montgomery), we get along great and it was just kids competing. I think it looked worse than it was intended. The refs had to get together and sort it all out because there were a lot of people involved. The explanation we were given was the flagrant-2 on Baker and the three others guys that came off the bench were ejected. What took awhile was the guys that came off the bench were wearing warmups so coach Montgomery had to come point out who they were. It was play ball from there. I think both teams played clean and just competed after that.“
Senior Forward Anthony Avery Jr.
On playing physical game
The past two games of practice we have been going at it, we brought the fight. We are getting back to the old Broncos. As a senior I just have to play hard and lead out there on the court.
