Bronco Gymnasts Boast Eighth Highest GPA in the Nation

KALAMAZOO, Mich.–  The Western Michigan gymnastics program maintained the eighth highest grade-point average in the nation for the 2014-15 academic year, according to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.

Collectively, the Broncos carried a 3.6075 GPA, marking the sixth-straight year Western Michigan has finished in the top 15 nationally. WMU had the highest GPA among Mid-American Conference institutions and were one of three MAC teams to place in the top 15. Eastern Michigan came in 10th with a 3.566 GPA and Bowling Green was ranked 15th with a 3.5389.

Overall, 11 Bronco student-athletes earned spots on the NACGC/W All-Academic team, including eight returners to the 2016 roster. Kayla Weber led the team with a perfect 4.0. She is entering her senior season and studying biomedical sciences. Second-year Bronco Anna Corbett followed with a 3.91.

The academic success is nothing new for Western Michigan. Last year, the Broncos were fourth in the nation with a 3.6567 GPA and WMU boasted the second best GPA in the nation in 2013 (3.8086), which was the highest GPA on record for any team ever at the university. The Broncos ranked ninth nationally in 2012 (3.5335), 12th in 2011 (3.5190) and fourth in 2010 (3.6323).
