Women's Tennis Announces 2015-16 Schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team announced its 2015-16 schedule on Tuesday morning including a complete Mid-American Conference schedule. The Broncos are coming off their best season in nearly a decade in which the team finished 15-9 overall and 7-1 in the MAC, earning the number-two seed in the MAC Tournament. Ryan Tomlinson will begin his first year as the WMU head coach after serving as an assistant in the Bronco program for 10 years.

The fall schedule has the Broncos hosting two tournaments and traveling to two others. The season is slated to start on September 25 with the Indiana Invitational before WMU returns home to host the Bronco Invitational on October 9-11. The Broncos then travel to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional on October 22-27 and will host the WMU Super Challenge on November 6-8 to finish the fall season.

The spring season starts with a pair of home matches against Oakland and Valparaiso on January 16th.  The Broncos schedule features five teams ranked in the top-75 of the final 2014-15 Oracle/ITA poll including Notre Dame (36th), Indiana (48th), Tennessee (61st), Michigan State (68th), and California State-Northridge (72nd).

“We feel like we've put together a challenging schedule that will prepare our team to compete in the Mid-American Conference come March,” Coach Tomlinson said. “We had a successful year last season but we want to continue to grow and get better.”

The Broncos start the MAC season by traveling to Ball State on March 25 before hosting Bowling Green on March 27th. The Bronco's next two matches are on the road, at Buffalo on April 1 and at Akron on April 3. Three of the final four matches will be at home as WMU hosts Eastern Michigan on April 8 before traveling to Toledo on April 10. The Broncos end the season with back-to-back home matches against Northern Illinois on April 16 and reigning MAC champion Miami on April 25.
