Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team dropped matches to UMASS and Buffalo over the weekend, falling 6-1 to the Minutemen on Friday and 4-3 to the Bulls on Sunday.
On Friday, the Broncos (12-8, 3-4 MAC) pushed UMASS for the doubles point after
Julia Frazier and
Polina Khotko won 6-4 at No. 3 over Martina Pavissich and Madara Markevica. The point came down to the No. 2 match between Amelia Tye/Amanda De Oliveira and WMU's
Audrey Smitek and
Lola Glantz. The match went to a tie-breaker, with UMASS winning it 7-6 (8-6).
Smitek recorded the lone point for WMU, beating Pavissich 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.
On Sunday, the Broncos dropped the doubles point and then went down 2-0 after a loss at No. 6 singles. Smitek won her second match of the weekend, this time at No. 2 over Julia Laspro 6-2, 6-2. The victory extended Smitek's winning streak to five matches.
Sienna Osborne tied the match up at 2-2 after a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Liv Roestel. The Bulls retook the lead with a win at No. 1 and then clinched the match victory with a win at No. 3.
Ayana Yaguchi picked up Western Michigan's third and final point at No. 4 against Sarah Hartel 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6).
Western Michigan wraps up the regular season next Sunday at Eastern Michigan with the match slated to start at 12 p.m.
