Broncos' Tournament Runs Ends Against Bowling Green

AVON, Ohio- No. 7 seeded Western Michigan bowed out of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Baseball Tournament with a 5-3 loss to No. 6 Bowling Green Friday.

WMU started off the tournament with a 5-0 upset over No. 2 Kent State Wednesday and suffered its first loss yesterday, a 4-1 final, against No. 3 Ohio in 11 innings before falling in the elimination game to the Falcons.

The Broncos took a 3-0 lead over Bowling Green in the top of the second inning Friday, but couldn't hold the advantage. BGSU got a run back in the fourth off a solo home run by Greg Basalga and pulled ahead with four runs in the fifth.

Falcon left-handed pitcher Andrew Lacinak threw a complete game and held the Broncos to three hits, striking out eight. WMU sophomore second baseman Nick Vogelmeier went 2-for-3 with an RBI and freshman center fielder Tanner Allison was 1-for-3 with a run scored. After giving up two hits in the second inning, Lacinak didn't allow another hit until Vogelmeier laid down a bunt single in the ninth.

Bronco senior right-handed pitcher Chad Mayle (4-4) took the loss for Western Michigan, going 4.2 innings in the starting effort. He was touched for six hits and five runs, four earned. Freshman reliever Peyton Gray closed out the game, surrendering just one hit and striking out three over 3.1 innings.
