Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – A total of 11 players scored for Western Michigan women's basketball team Wednesday night as they extended their season win streak to three games by defeating Loyola-Chicago 68-45 at Gentile Arena.
The outing concluded a four-game road trip for Western Michigan in which the Broncos went 3-1 with the only loss coming on the road at No. 20 Northwestern. With the win over Loyola, the Brown & Gold improves to 5-2 and are now winners in four of its last five games. The Ramblers fall to 2-4 this season.
After a slow start for the offense in the first quarter that left WMU with a 9-2 deficit less than three minute in, the offense picked up outscoring the Ramblers, 18-5, the rest of the quarter to build a 20-14 lead they would not surrender.
After taking a 29-25 lead into the half, the Broncos opened the second half outscoring LUC 19-6 including a 15-2 run to start the quarter. Coming into this game, the third quarter was the only quarter the Broncos have outscored their opponents in and the trend continued tonight.
Individually, seniors Miracle Woods and Alex Morton led the team in scoring with 12 and 10, respectively. Senior Jessica Jessing had eight points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, just missing what would have been her second career double-double. Sophomore Teagan Reeves had nine points and seven rebounds while leading the team in assists with four and freshman Breanna Mobley had seven points and led the team with three blocks.
As a team, the Broncos shot 43-percent (26-for-61) from the floor and held the Ramblers to 29-percent (18-for-63) including a low 10-percent (1-for-10) mark from beyond the arc. The Ramblers won the rebounding battle, 48-42, but the Broncos had seven less turnovers. WMU's bench outscored the Ramblers, 32-9, with big help coming from Woods, Deja Wimby (6), Meredith Miller (career-high 5) and Najee Smith (5).
For the Ramblers, Sam Lambrigtsen led the way with 11 points and Nieka Wheeler led the team with nine rebounds.
WMU will return home for a home game against Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. It will be the Broncos' first home game since Nov. 18 when they beat Chicago State 65-56. Deborah Meeks and Logan McCane will be honored as the Hometown Heroes.
