Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan women's basketball team officially got 2015-16 underway with a 56-49 win over visiting Division II UW Parkside in the season opener Friday.

Teagan Reeves scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-19 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. She also set a career high for minutes played (28) and tied her career high for blocks (3).
Junior guard
Meredith Shipman knocked down 4-of-8 attempts from behind the arc and finished with 12 points, four assists and three steals.
Entering his fourth season, head coach
Shane Clipfell improved his record to 4-0 in season openers, becoming the first Bronco head coach to win their first four season openers.
Western Michigan led Parkside 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, but was outscored 11-5 in the second 10 minutes and the game was tied at the half, 24-24.
The Broncos forced five turnovers in the first quarter and scored nine points on those turnovers. Senior guard
Alex Morton dished out three assists in the first quarter and finished with four on the night.
Reeves provided the spark early offensively for the Broncos scoring eight points in the first half. She went on to score five quick points to start the second half. Her Parkside counterparts in the paint, 6-3 senior Jessica Prince and 6-4 sophomore Shelby Cheston were held to just six points in the game.
Despite going just 5-for-17 from the field in the third quarter, WMU managed to pull ahead by four, 40-36, heading into the fourth quarter. Shipman put down a big three pointer off a drive and dish from sophomore
Alexis Parks that helped swing the momentum in WMU's favor.
Two more three's from Shipman and a bucket by Reeves helped WMU push its lead to nine in the fourth quarter. Parkside worked to get the deficit down to five with 2:17 remaining, but Reeves knocked down another basket in the paint and the Broncos went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to close out the game and hold on for a seven-point victory.
Western Michigan outscored the Rangers 30-20 in the paint and scored 16 points off 21 turnovers. Shipman and senior
Jessica Jessing (seven points) each finished with a game-high seven rebounds. WMU shot 34.4 percent from the floor.
The Broncos (1-0) will have their first road test this Sunday, Nov. 15, heading to East Lansing to face Big Ten foe Michigan State at 2 p.m.
