ARLINGTON, Texas- Former Western Michigan standout
Adam Rosales had his contract purchased by the Texas Rangers on June 29, agreeing on a one-year contract for the 2014 season.
Rosales, 30, was with the Rangers in Spring Training, but did not make the team, even though he went into camp as the favorite to be the utility infield. Rosales started out the season at Triple A Round Rock, where he batted .276 with seven homers, 16 doubles, three triples and 43 RBIs over 72 games. The Rangers optioned rookie infielder Luis Sardinas to Round Rock and made a move on their 40-man roster when they purchased Rosales' contract.
The news was the second best thing to happen to Rosales over the weekend, as he was in Cleveland when he got the call, where his wife Callie gave birth to a daughter, Juliet.
Rosales is beginning his seventh season in the majors after being drafted out of Western Michigan by Cincinnati in the 12th round of the 2005 draft. Rosales was a back-to-back First Team All-Mid-American Conference shortstop for the Broncos in 2004 & 2005. His name still remains at the top of a majority of the program's single-season and career statistical categories.
Rosales split last season with Oakland and Texas, and at the time of this last contract purchase had a career .219 average in 319 major league games with Cincinnati (2008-09), Oakland (2010-13), and Texas (2013).
