Head Coach Andy Murray
On
maintaining energy and control throughout game...
"I think it was their internal
focus before the game. We knew it was going to be a battle, it always has been
the last couple years. You're never too far ahead, and you're never too far out
of it. We just needed to stick with it. We got to the shoot out scenario, and
were going to do whatever we could to get the extra point. Frank made some
solid saves and we found a way to get the points we needed."
On
the second period...
"I just felt the game all the way
through was hard. It was a physical game. There were a lot of one-on-one
battles in the hockey game all night. It was a man's game tonight. That's the
characteristic of games we have against Notre Dame."
On
the tying goal...
"It's a tying goal. We need to be
better on the power play. We didn't get to use our power play in the third
period; there was a tripping penalty the referees decided not to call. Simply,
it's a tie game and we were in a battle. We talked about that between periods,
and sometimes when you have that happen it can be a let down, but talked about
how we expected it to be a battle and a tough game. It was everything we
expected."
Freshman Forward Nolan LaPorte
On
his goal...
"It was incredible. It was an
unbelievable feeling. Our line has been grinding out goals lately, and it has
been a long time for either me or Kessel to get one."
On
tone of the game...
"Notre Dame is a great team, big
guys and hard to play against. They don't stop battling until the very end.
It's just going to get harder from here."
On
team's performance tonight...
"I think we faced some adversity
early in the game, and they came back a couple times on us but our team really
showed we never give up. We don't back down from anyone and kept pushing and
sure enough they started falling."
Sophomore Forward Will Kessel
On
playing against ND...
"They're an incredibly talented
team. They have draft picks up and down their line up, and it's always a big
challenge. I grew up playing against and with a bunch of their players so it's
always a blast getting to play against them."
On
the goal Frank tipped in...
"Frank made two huge breakaway
saves a couple shifts before that, and he's always got our back back there. We
never have any doubts about Frank. He's been keeping us in a bunch of games,
and we're always looking to push forward for Frank."
On
tone of the game...
"There's definitely minimal
mistakes this time of year. Our team was ready to go today, and it was a fun
game to play. It was definitely a physical battle, but it was something we were
prepared for."
On
his goal...
"It is unbelievable. It has been
way too long since the semi-finals of the CCHA last year. I had too long of a
streak going without one."
