WMU vs FSU - WMU Quotes 12-7

Head Coach Andy Murray

I think it was a typical Ferris-Western Michigan game, at least the ones that I've been involved with over the last two years. Not a lot of room to play out there. Fast tempo. I don't know how long the game took, but not that long because the puck was really moving. I thought the guys were really skating.

Defense

First of all, I think we managed the puck quite a bit and had it on offense, and that took away. That was our best defense was the way we managed the puck. They made some adjustments and stretched the zone and got some people in behind us there we need to do a better job of that. I think our defense was solid but I think our defense could be better than they were tonight, here. So we'll take the victory, recognizing that their team and Coach Daniels and his staff are going to have their team ready to go tomorrow night. They've got some things that they could be better at, and we really think that we can play better than what we did tonight, too. So we'll come back, we'll watch tape tonight, and get them focused tomorrow morning.

On Morrison

Kenny can shoot the puck, there's no question about it. And now teams are starting to favor him, and you have to use your other weapons you have out there as well. But he can shoot it, there's no question about that.

Chase Balisy

I think it's one of those games where you just gotta work the other team. We know that if we work hard and play our structure, we have a chance to be the best team in the country. Just putting on your hard hat and working hard and grinding them out is what got the job done tonight.

Describe Elias

Just a hard worker. I mean, he doesn't stop. He's like the Energizer Bunny, he's got a battery, and he just keeps going. He's got speed and plays physical, takes those hits, and that's what we need.

Pass to Walters for the goal

Berschbach got the puck down there, and I saw Dane was on the other side of the net, and the defenseman was sliding there. His stick was off the ground a little bit, so just under his stick, and Dane made a nice shot there to finish it off.

We wanted to keep the puck in their zone all night and grind on their defensemen. When you're playing in the offensive zone, they don't really have a chance to score any goals or get any shots on your net. So I think we did a good job of controlling the puck down low and using the points and spreading them out, because they like to really clog the corner a little bit.

Dane Walters

The first goal, we had a 5-on-3 and Coach actually called a time out and we made a minor adjustment there. Kenny just ripped the puck, hit it so hard it bounced off the glass, and right onto my stick, so I just had to tap it in. And the second one, like Chase said, he just made an unbelievable pass. It was a great effort all around from the face off to the pass, and all I had to do was put that one in, too. So it was kind of awesome.

It was a tough game tonight, I mean, very physical. A lot of skating. These guys like to really grind it out in the corners and they've got some big forwards that like to bang. So we just got to regroup, go over some things, maybe adjust a couple things 'cause we could be better, and come out tomorrow and have a great effort.

Kenney Morrison

On becoming more of a threat

Last Saturday we were playing Northern, and they just came on me, stuck a guy on me, and threw us for a loop there for the first couple power plays. But now we've been practicing, and know what to do after that. We've got a thing set up in case someone does that.

3rd period goal

That goal there, I just got it from the point, saw the lane, and it went through, I think, three or four guys, and luckily it went top corner there. It's kind of a lucky play, and the goalie doesn't really have a chance to see it. I just try getting pucks through. Keep on net, and hopefully the forwards get the rebounds.

Defense

We played really well defensively tonight. Got to back pucks first, made it hard for them to get a forecheck and set a cycle up. That's what we do, get the back pucks first, get it out, and play in their zone as much as possible.
