WMU Post-Game Quotes
Senior Guard Aurielle Anderson
On the Albany comeback ...
"I feel that there was not enough fight in our defense. They had a lot of big players that
enabled them to get a lot of second chance shots. "
On being outscored in the paint ...
"I am glad that we are going up against bigger teams
now. It is good to know that you
have to go the extra mile to show that even though we are a short team, we
still have fight. If we get it now
we will know how to counter it later.
We just need to be mentally stronger. It is just a learning experience now."
On the attacking from outside the three point circle ...
"We started off attacking, I don't know why we shied away
from it. At first it is
frustrating, but afterwards it just turns into a learning experience. We need to learn how to pick each other
up and we will be good."
Head Coach Shane Clipfell
On the game ...
"That's back to back games that we have given up incredibly
good shooting percentage to an opponent.
You can say what you want; at the Milwaukee game you can say that they
had a really good shooting percentage, but now a team a comes here and does the
same thing again, and now it is on us.
We need to dissect our defense, it is not that we don't know who can do
what. We knew that 10 was a
shooter, we knew 11 was a driver, we knew everything they were going to
do. We just need to do a better
job executing defensively."
On potential changes defensively ...
"We did go to a zone in the second half, and that did at
least thwart them. We might need
to start changing defenses back and forth to try and prevent teams from getting
any type of flowing going. We need
to find something different to do.
We cannot discount the fact that people are going to shoot 50 plus
percent, especially on our court. "
On the Albany comeback at the end of the first half ...
"They took their press off, and when they put on their court
to court defense, that is when we started struggling. I wanted them to continue to press us, since that is when we
had most of our scoring opportunities.
We were trying to get our kids to attack the basket, and that is what we
stopped doing. When they went into
the court to court, we still wanted to attack, but we could not get them to do
that."
On the amount of missed lay-ups ...
"It felt like we missed a lay-up and they would use the
whole shot clock and shoot a step back three and hit it. We work hard to get a good basket and
we miss it and we give up something at the other end."
On being out scored in the paint ...
"I don't think we will see a team this big from here on out,
so that was a unique situation. We
have been outsized every game we have stepped out on the court this year, and
we have been able to manage the interior part of that. I knew we were going to struggle rebounding
against these guys because they are relentless and come from everywhere. It does not surprise me that we were
not able to keep them off the glass, I just think that if we could have made
some buckets there when they were starting to pull away things would have been
different."
On the game being a learning experience ...
"Every game should be a learning experience. What we told them in the locker room
was that we are not quite to the point of laying it on the line for
others. We are quick to find fault
in others, and that was not something that I was not aware of at the beginning
of this thing, but it is something we have to get curved. We have to get it stopped. We can't get it done overnight, and I
understand that; we need to be patient with them. They understand that, and as things go wrong, can we stop
that mentality were it is everybody else and not us. That is our challenge with this team right now."
