Head Coach Andy Murray
It feels good to win. Doesn't matter the type of game it is,
whether you've dominated or squeaked it out, or the other team's outshot you,
whenever you get a win at this level it's good because they're tough to come
by. When you play a 36 game schedule, you need to get as many wins as you can.
Certainly we recognize that Canisius plays really hard, they battled, they're
physical, they're what we expected they would be. They stayed in it. You know
they get that goal called back on them, it's a 2-1 game if they get that one. I
believe it was kicked in from looking at the replays, but certainly they're a
team that's going to come back tomorrow night and we're going to have to be
even better.
I think we skate well. I think we're one of the better
skating teams in college hockey, and we like to pressure the puck and play that
tracking game where we try to deny time and space to our opponents. Again, you
take a look at pivotal moments in the game, early in that third period they got
two or three great opportunities, could've made it two to one, and it's a whole
new ball game. So they're certainly going to have a feeling in their room that
they've got an opportunity tomorrow night, and it's going to be very important
how we start. Credit Canisius with playing as hard as we expected they would,
and now we've got to make the right adjustments and come back ready for them
tomorrow night.
Time in the their zone
We did have a lot of time in the offensive zone. I mean the
objective of the game is to spend the first 20 seconds of every shift in the
offensive zone so that the other team's too tired by the time they get to the
red line, they've got to just throw it in, and then you're attacking them
again. So we do sustain good pressure. You know, they play a really solid defense,
they kept us to the outside a lot. We did have some point shot opportunities,
but their goaltender was up to the task.
Warda
To be honest with you, I haven't got a report, they just
told me for precautionary reasons he wouldn't play the rest of the game.
Probably be able to tell you more about that tomorrow.
Mike Cichy
Goal
Yeah it definitely felt good. Took pressure off our defense
a little bit. You know we had that three-goal cushion, and three's a lot better
than two, 'cause if they get one, we're in a barn burner. So it felt good to
get that one and finally get the monkey off my back.
On his "693 days,"
last goal against Notre Dame
Yeah. I was there for a while. Honestly, I can't [remember]
at all. I thought it was Omaha, and then Bodnar's the one who told me who I
scored against last.
Pressure on the puck
We had a plan going in that we were going to be strong on
the puck, and everyone knows their responsibilities. Coach Murray's really
detailed on our attack. And I think with everybody knowing what they've gotta
do we're always in the right spots and we seem to be putting pretty good
pressure on them, tough to make a play.
Faceoffs, penalty
kills
We're working on face offs every day, it's like free throws
for basketball teams, centers will go out. And we'll do the whole line,
everyone will be out there taking draws because it's a whole unit thing. We're
working on it. I think we were pretty good in the third on it, and we'll keep
getting better.

First collegiate goal
It was a good feeling to get it over with and get it out of
the way and I was definitely excited after it happened.
Relief to get on the
scoreboard
It was good for our team to get ahead and get the lead. We
were just pressuring them. Any way we can get them, it doesn't matter to us, we
just want to get on the board and get ahead.
Biggest thing Canisius
did to hold back Bronco offense
The goalie was giving out rebounds, but we just couldn't
capitalize on them, we couldn't bury them. So they were protecting the front of
the net pretty good. They weren't giving up too many good second opportunities.
Momentum
We're just trying to take it game by game, shift by shift.
Every period's different than the last one. Every period you have to come out
hard again, keep giving it to them, pressuring them, keep building up the
momentum. Every period.
