EAST LANSING, Mich. - The sixth-seeded doubles pairing of
Ross VanderPloeg and
Nadin Indre advanced to the second round of the Main Doubles Draw, and the Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped competition on the second full day at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Michigan State. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday.
Indre and VanderPloeg, playing together for the first time this season, showed seemingly no rust in a thorough dismantling of their opponent. Facing off against a familiar foe, the duo defeated Cleveland State's Matt Kuelker and Matt Ford 8-2 in the first round of the main doubles draw. With the win, the pair advances to the round of 32 in the main doubles draw, and will face Illinois's Julian Childers and Ross Guignon.
In other action, Aaron Wong competed for the right to play in the main singles draw, but fell just short in his bid to make the main field. Wong battled Childers for two tough sets, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4.
VanderPloeg and freshman Andrew Cahn each competed in the main singles draw; VanderPloeg held tight with Ohio State's Connor Smith before falling in two sets, while cahn lost to Illinois's Jared Hiltzik.
