BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Western Michigan track and field team's trio of discus throwers fell shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships at the final day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Indiana University on Saturday.
Senior
Sarah Morris came the closest to the top 12 position needed to move on, taking 15th with a distance of 164 feet, 2 inches. Morris ends her four year outdoor career at WMU as one of the most prolific discus throwers in school history. She broke the 25 year old record of Donna Wright during the 2010 season with a distance of 169 feet, 7 inches. Morris, a native of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., has been named Academic All-MAC twice during the outdoor season and has scored at the 2010 Outdoor MAC Championships, placing third. This also marked Morris' third straight season competing at the Outdoor NCAA Regional Championships.
Fellow senior
Stephanie Mitchell, competing in her first ever NCAA Regional, finished her career with a throw of 152 feet. Freshman
Andrea Hiler finished right behind her with 151 feet, 7 inches.
WMU's
Iris Campbell was the lone Bronco to move on to the NCAA Championships at Drake University on June 8.
