Broncos Claim 4x400m Relay Title at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. -- Bronco track and field claims 4x400m relay title along with several personal best performances on the final day for collegiate competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday night.

Andrea Arnold gave the Broncos the lead in their heat with a split of 55.1 seconds before passing the baton to Leya Munwam. Iris Campbell ran a blazing split of 53.9 seconds to regain the lead for WMU and Brittany Calhoun closed it out with a 55.3 split to win the heat. WMU's combined total of 3:39.92 and was fast enough for first place overall.

"We put Brittany on the end of the race to fill in for Ashely Hunault and she did a great job," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "The best split she ever ran was around 57 seconds and she showed up big time today to win us the heat."

Campbell won her heat in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.11 seconds. In a crowded field with some of the best from the West Coast her time placed her 15th out of 60 student-athletes.

The reigning MAC Track Athlete of the Week and Calhoun also combined for a pair of personal-bests in the 400m hurdles. Running in the same heat, Campbell took second place with the MAC's fastest time of 1:00.15. Calhoun took fourth in the heat with a time of 1:01.92. Campbell's time placed her seventh overall while Calhoun finished in the top 25.

"Iris is knocking on the door of breaking 60 seconds and I really think we can get her down towards 58 flat before the end of the season," Lycan added.

Arnold took over a second off of her personal-best time in the 400m dash. Her new best mark of 54.35 seconds placed her in seventh overall in field of 53.

Sophomore Rachel Whitley broke the 2:10 mark in the 800m run for the first time during the outdoor season in her career.
