KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan head ice hockey coach
Jeff Blashill has received his second National Coach of the Year Award this season, with the newest one coming from Inside College Hockey as named on Friday morning.
Blashill led a rejuvenated Bronco hockey team to a 19-13-10 record, a fourth place finish in the CCHA, an appearance in the CCHA Tournament Championship game appearance and the program's fourth ever NCAA Tournament bid.
On Tuesday, Blashill was name National Co-Coach of the Year by College Hockey News, sharing the title with Merrimack's Mark Dennehy. However, INCH named Dennehy runner-up to Blashill for their award.
Blashill, 37, just finished up his first season as head coach after spending two years at the helm of the Indiana Ice of the USHL. During the season the Broncos were a mainstay in the USCHO.com weekly poll and, towards the end of the season, in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
The Ferris State alum and former assistant at Miami took a Bronco team that finished in dead last in the CCHA last season and was picked to finish 10th by both the CCHA media and coaches poll to a 10-9-9 conference record. The Broncos finished in the top four of the CCHA for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
