SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Western Michigan track and field team finished up the final day of competition on Saturday at the prestigious Meyo Invitational at the Loftus Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
Once again the Broncos saw a good performance out of
Iris Campbell with a personal-best converted time of 54.86 seconds. Currently she holds the second best time in the Mid-American conference in the event. Also running a personal best time in the 400m dash was freshman
Krystle Ingram, with a time of 57.28.'
Sophomore
Rachel Whitley took fourth place in the unseeded mile run with a time of 4:56.38. Whitley competed in a loaded field against competitors from Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Minnesota and Michigan among others.
"It was a real good field in the mile," said head coach
Kelly Lycan. "It was probably the highest quality field she has run against this season and it was a really great experience to for her to get in that race and mix it up with so many quality runners."
Freshman
Chiara Allen picked up a personal best distance in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 10.25 inches.
"Overall we had a lot of good performances against great competition," concluded Lycan. "We are still learning and the freshman are still making freshman mistakes, but the effort is there. We just need to work on our execution.
Western Michigan splits up next week with some of the team heading to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the rest heading up north for the GVSU Invitational.
