Broncos See Improvements at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team saw several improvements over Friday and Saturday amongst the 2,000 student-athletes that competed at the Grand Valley State Big Meet over the weekend.

Freshman Chiara Allen took first place in the triple jump with a season and personal best distance of 37 feet, 7.25 inches. Her performance topped her previous best by over nine inches. Gwendoline Ebosi also got a crack at the triple jump and finished in eighth with a distance of 33 feet, 11.25 inches.

Allen also placed in the top 10 in the 60m hurdles, coming in at ninth with a time of 9.14 seconds. Junior Amanda Fenton took fifth place with a time of 9.04 seconds, consistently getting closer to the nine second barrier for the second straight week.

Junior Sarah Ross took first place in the pole vault with a season-best and tying a personal-best height of 12 feet, 1.50 inches.

Amber Brunmeier ran a personal-best time of 10:00.97 in the 3,000m run invitational to nearly break the 10 minute mark for the first time in her career. When Brunmeier does break the 10 minute barrier, she will become the eighth Bronco in school history to do so, joining teammate Samantha Tomerlin, the most recent student-athlete to do so. In the 3,000m run open race, Kelsey Burgess took eighth place with a time of 10:37.48.

Freshman Haily Traxler took third place in the 5,000m with a time of 18:39.39. Fellow freshman Chelsie Noble also competed and turned in a time of 19:26.17.

Sophomore Cha'nese Mendenhall took third in the 60m dash with a season-best time of 7.77 seconds, that is also second best on the team this season. Mendenhall also took fourth place in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 25.23 seconds, finishing .03 seconds head of Michigan State's Alysson Bodenbach.

Freshman Aisha Hodge performed well in the 800m run, taking nearly three seconds off her season best time at 2:15.98.
