WMU vs. Detroit Post-Game Notes

Pregame

This is the 52nd meeting all-time between the two schools, with Detroit holding a 28-23 advantage in the series. WMU owns a 9-8 advantage at home. 

This is the 17th consecutive year the two teams have met. Head coach Steve Hawkins owns a 4-2 career record against the Titans.

This is the third Horizon League opponent WMU will face this season. WMU is 1-1 against the league with a 67-55 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an 82-64 loss to Loyola-Chicago.

Former WMU student-athlete LaMarcus Lowe returns to WMU for the first-time since transferring to Detroit. Lowe, a 6'11 center, played at WMU during the 2008-09 season.

WMU has had at least three players score in double figures in each of its first six games this season.

 

First Half

WMU starting five: PG Mike Douglas, SG Demetrius Ward, SF Nate Hutcheson, PF Flenard Whitfield, and C Matt Stainbrook. WMU has used the same starting lineup in each of the first seven games this season.

Detroit starting five: G Chase Simon, G Ray McCallum, G Jason Calliste, F Nick Minnerath and C Eli Holman.

WMU controls the opening tip.

Ward perfect 4-4 from field in first half and is in double figures for the sixth time in seven game this season.

WMU is 2-2 when leading at the half this season.

 

Second Half

Demetrius Ward first missed field goal at 19:05.

First double-digit lead of night for WMU at 18:11 on Nate Hutcheson lay-up on offensive rebound. 

Fourth double-figure scoring effort of season for Whitfield

First game in double-digit scoring for WMU G David Brown. He is the third Bronco in double figures tonight, giving WMU three players in double figures in each of their seven games this season.

Hutcheson becomes fourth Bronco in double figures, giving the Broncos two consecutive games with four double-digit scorers.

Hutcheson matches career-high with two blocks.

Douglas becomes the fifth Bronco in double figures. First time WMU has accomplished that this season.
