WMU vs. Alma Post-Game Notes


Pregame

This is the only Division III opponent WMU will play this season and the only Division I opponent Alma will play this season.

This is the first meeting between the two schools since the 1944-45 season and their ninth regular-season meeting all-time.

WMU holds a 5-3 edge in the all-time series. 

WMU is 82-22 all-time against the MIAA.

WMU has had three players score in double figures in each of its first five games this season.

Bronco guard Demetrius Ward has scored in double figures in each of the first four games this season. 

Great Scot! WMU Assoc. AD for Academic Services and Compliance, Jeff Stone, is a 1982 graduate of Alma College.

 

First Half

Starting five for WMU: PG Mike Douglas, SG Demetrius Ward, SF Nate Hutcheson, PF Flenard Whitfield and C Matt Stainbrook. The Broncos have used the same starting five in each of their first five contests this season.

Starting five for Alma: G Greg Silverthorn, G Kevin Ginther, G Cory Schneider, F Arik Hesselink and F Brett Lackie.

Second Half

First three-pointer of season for David Brown. Brown also with a season-high in scoring. 

Career-high in rebounds for Stainbrook. 

Second consecutive game in double-figure scoring for Juwan Howard.

Fifth straight game WMU has had at least three players score in double-figures.

Season-high in scoring for Muhammed Conteh

Career-high in three-pointers made for Howard.

First career double-double for Stainbrook. It is the first double-double by a WMU player since Donald Lawson scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against against Northern Illinois on Feb. 17, 2010.

Career-high in scoring for Howard.

Season-high in points for Brandon Pokley.

First points of Bronco career for Nick Stapert.

First points of career for Dan Loney.

 

Postgame

The 59-point margin of victory is the largest for WMU this season.

The last time WMU scored 100 or more points was Jan. 29, 2008 in a 100-90 double-overtime victory over Buffalo on Jan 29, 2008.

First time WMU has had four players in double-figure scoring since facing Central Michigan in last year's MAC Tournament. 

Four Broncos reached career-highs in scoring: Howard (15), Dean (14), Loney (6) and Stapert (4). Stainbrook also tied a career-high with 16 points.
