WMU vs. Kalamazoo College Notes

Pregame

  • This is the second of two exhibition games for WMU. The Broncos previously defeated Spring Arbor 64-53 on Nov. 2.
  • This is the only exhibition for Kalamazoo College and the only Division I school the Hornets will face this season.
  • The Broncos and Hornets last met in an exhibition Nov. 7, 2009, with WMU earning a 78-52 victory.

 

First Half

  • Starting five for WMU: PG Mike Douglas, SG Alex Wolf, SF Juwan Howard, Jr., PF Flenard Whitfield and C Matt Stainbrook.
  • This is the second different starting lineup for WMU with this preseason, with Douglas and Whitfield each earning their second starts.
  • Starting five for Kalamazoo College: G Joe Wilson, G Eric Fishman F Ryan Clark, F Tyler Stewart and F Joe Prepolec.
  • Kalamazoo College controls the opening tip.
  • For the second straight exhibition, a freshman has scored the Broncos first points of the game, on a Matt Stainbrook layup.
  • WMU went on separate 14-0 and 22-0 runs.
  • Dan Loney with first action of preseason for WMU.
  • With seven first half three pointers, WMU passes its total from previous exhibition vs. Spring Arbor (6).
  • The 51 points scored by WMU at the half is a total the team didn't reach until 6:11 remained in the second half of its first exhibition.

 

Second Half 

  • Lay-up by Alex Wolf equals Bronco scoring output from first exhibition at 15:33 of second half.
  • Flenard Whitfield is the second Bronco in double figures, joining Nate Hutcheson.
  • Every Bronco to play ten or more minutes has an assist.  
  • Jeff Hollenbeck records first blocked shot for Kalamazoo College.
  • For the second consecutive game, the Bronco bench has totaled over 40 points. 
  • Matt Stainbrook becomes the third Bronco in double figures.
  • Brandon Pokley is the fourth Bronco to score in double figures. 
  • First points of preseason for WMU F Dan Loney.
  • First action of preseason for WMU C Nick Stapert

 

Postgame

  • WMU with four players in double-figure scoring- Hutcheson (19), Whitfield (18), Stainbrook (13) and Pokley (11).
  • WMU C Matt Stainbrook records four block. 
  • Ten of twelve Broncos who saw action scored.
  • Every Bronco to play ten or more minutes recorded at least one assist.
  • Nine different Broncos came away with a steal.
  • WMU concludes its preseason 2-0.
