Broncos Fall to Ohio, 2-1

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Kelsey Pichel scored a goal and assisted another, leading Ohio to a 2-1 win over Western Michigan Sunday at the WMU Soccer Complex. Stephanie Skowneski scored for the Broncos late in the second half.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half as neither team had much going offensively. Ohio (6-4-1, 2-1-1 MAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute when Jackie Hanson finished a rebound on the left side off a shot by Pichel.

Pichel scored the eventual game-winner in the 58th minute, striking from 30 yards out.

Trailing 2-0 late in the second half, Skowneski put the Broncos back in the game with a goal in the 80th minute, but WMU couldn't manage the equalizer. Skowneski's goal was a long hit from outside the 18-yard box, a ball that curled over the goalie's reach and found the upper corner of the net. It was her first goal of the season.

The Broncos took seven shots and limited the Bobcats to just four. Sarah Phillips took the loss in goal for the Broncos. She made two saves.

Western Michigan (4-5-1, 2-2-0 MAC) plays its next two games on the road, traveling to Buffalo Friday, Oct. 9 and Kent State Oct. 11.
