BUFFALO -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team gave up two early first-half goals and fell at Buffalo, 2-1, in Mid-American Conference play on Friday night.
The Bulls jumped on the Broncos (5-6-2, 2-3-0 MAC) in the fourth minute on a goal by Stephanie Velez. Katie Kerr fed a pass to Velez and WMU goalkeeper
Sarah Phillips came out to challenger her but Kerr placed it past Phillips from 25 yards out to give Buffalo a very early 1-0 lead.
Buffalo added to its lead in the 15th minute on a goal by Lindsey Bailey. Bailey had a free-kick for the Bulls and put it in the net from 23 yards out.
Western Michigan cut the Buffalo lead in half in the 59th minute on a goal by
Stephanie Skowneski. Skowneski got the ball from freshman
Megan Matula and fired it from 25 yards out, just sneaking it under the crossbar for her third goal of the season.
The Broncos outshot the Bulls in total shots, 20-9, and shots on goal, 11-4, but were only able to muster up one goal on the night. Buffalo goalkeeper Amy Coron made 10 saves on the night.
Western Michigan continues its conference road swing as it heads to Kent, Ohio to battle the Golden Flashes on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
