KALAMAZOO, Mich -- Western Michigan's men's hockey team was held scoreless, 3-0, by the Ohio State Buckeyes in front of 1,985 fans at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Ohio State (3-10-1, 1-7-0 CCHA) goalie Joseph Palmer stopped all 16 WMU (4-8-0, 2-6-0 CCHA) shots to earn the shutout. The Broncos best scoring chance came in the second period when WMU held a two-man advantage on the power play, but were unable to get a shot on net.

"I thought we played physical. In the second period we really took it to them," senior defenseman Nathan Ansell said.

The game-winning goal came quickly, just 2:46 in the first period when Corey Toy fired the puck in on net and Western Michigan goaltender Riley Gill made the save but could not control the rebound. The rebound bounced right to Brad Gorhman who put the puck into the net for his first career goal, and give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead.

Ohio State would later add another goal early in the third period. Mathieu Picard scored on a pass from Matt McIlvane just 1:03 into the third, and Kyle Hood also picked an assist on the goal, putting the Buckeyes up 2-0.

Ohio State's final goal came during a delayed penalty. Kyle Reed got the pass from Peter Boyd and Corey Elkins, then raced down the ice. Reed made a diving shot and put it past Gill for his second goal of the season.

Gill finished the game with a game-high 26 saves, but dropped to 4-6-0 on the season.

WMU will take on Ferris State in CCHA action on Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Ewigelben Arena, then host the Bulldogs at Lawson on Dec. 1 at 7:35 p.m.
