KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team fell to No. 16 Bowling Green, 90-62, Wednesday night at University Arena.
Carrie Moore had a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Tiera DeLaHoussaye set a career-high with 10 assists and chipped in eight points and Lindsey Brown recorded 10 points and nine rebounds to lead the Broncos.
Western Michigan (8-13, 1-6 MAC) charged out from an early 6-4 deficit with a 7-0 run behind a three-pointer by Amanda Parker and back-to-back lay ups by Moore and DeLaHoussaye to take an 11-6 lead.
Bowling Green (17-2, 7-0 MAC) answered the Brown & Gold run, and stormed back after the first media break with a 17-0 run over a four-minute span, taking a 23-11 lead. DeLaHoussaye hit a jumper to end the Broncos' six-minute field goal drought and cut the Falcons' lead to eight, 23-15, with 9:22 remaining in the first half.
Bowling Green kept the momentum and capitalized on WMU turnovers to increase its lead to 19 points, 50-31, heading into intermission. BGSU scored 21 points off 11 Bronco turnovers and totaled 20 of its 50 first-half points inside the paint.
The Broncos trailed 57-36 early in the second half, but Western Michigan generated a come back with an 8-2 run from Brown and Moore to cut the lead to 15 points, 59-44.
The Falcons continued the trend of answering any run the Broncos staged with a five-straight points to push the lead back to 20, 64-44, with just over 13 minutes remaining. Brown hit a jumper to cap a 6-0 run, bringing the deficit to 16, 64-50. The Brown & Gold tried to build another rally, but yet again, Bowling Green answered with a 13-3 run. The Falcons held a 24-point advantage, 77-53, their biggest of the night, with eight minutes left. BGSU outscored the Broncos, 13-9, for the remainder of the evening, for the 90-62 victory.
Bowling Green had four out of five starters score in double-figures, led by senior Ali Mann, who posted 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field.
