ROME -- The Western Michigan men's basketball team opened their tour of Europe with a 92-86 victory over Basket Guidonia on Sunday night at the Stella Azurra in Rome.

The Broncos placed three players in double figures, led by sophomore guard Andre Ricks' 18 points, eight assists, five rebounds and five steals.

The center combination of juniors Joe Reitz and Dan Hess combined for 28 points and 21 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles. Hess finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Reitz added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

In his first action as a full member of the Broncos, Cleveland State transfer Michael Redell was in a group of four players that finished with eight points for the Brown & Gold. Andrew Hershberger added eight points and seven rebounds while Derek Fracalossi and Shawntes Gary each had eight points and six rebounds.

The Broncos were dominant inside against the professional club team from Italy's Serie C1. WMU outrebounded Basket Guidonia 61-33, including 21-4 on the offensive glass that led to a 22-3 WMU advantage in second-chance points.

Western Michigan took a 54-44 into halftime after shooting 23-of-42 (54.8 percent) in the first half, but cooled in the second half (11-of-38, 28.9 percent) to allow the opposition to close the margin. The Broncos did convert on 7-of-8 free throw (5-of-6 six by Redell) to close out the game in the final 90 seconds.

The Broncos are back in action Monday night in Italy against Viterbo at 8 p.m.
