KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University men's basketball team travels to Cleveland this week for the quarterfinals of the 2006 FirstEnergy Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena. The No. 6 Broncos (14-16, 10-8 MAC) will play No. 3 seed Akron (21-8, 14-4 MAC) at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 9.
The Broncos defeated the Zips, 66-60, in overtime in last year's quarterfinals, but Akron has claimed two victories over Western Michigan in the regular season.
Western Michigan advanced in the MAC Tournament by defeating Eastern Michigan, 60-55, Monday night at University Arena. This is the fourth straight year WMU has made it to the final eight of the MAC Tournament.
