KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Feb. 10) -- Ryan Miller's hat trick lifted Bemidji State to a 6-1 victory over Western Michigan in a match-up between teams from College Hockey America and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, respectively.
BSU (14-10-3) scored a pair of goals in each period, dropping the Broncos to 0-4 against the CHA this season.
Miller scored on the power play, short-handed and even-strength to earn Perani Cup No. 1 Star of the Game honors. Matt Allen was tabbed No. 2 Star, swinging momentum in BSU's favor with a breakaway goal at 12:45 of the middle period that gave the Beavers a 3-1 advantage. Miller struck less than five minutes later to seal the win.
WMU's (6-21-4) lone goal came from Brian Bicek, who deflected a slap shot by Reid Yanzti at 8:39 of the second period.
WMU senior Eric Marvin made 20 saves in his second start of the season. Despite the lopsided score, the Broncos finished with a 28-26 edge in shots.
The teams meet tomorrow night at 7:35 p.m. in Lawson.
