Box Score

PHILADELPHIA- The Western Michigan women's basketball team suffered a 78-35 defeat to Temple at the Liacouras Center Tuesday night.

WMU (5-7) stayed within striking distance in the first half, and even took the lead on a Tiera DeLaHoussaye jumper with 9:29 remaining in the period. A combination of poor shooting and a tough Temple defense in the second half resulted in the lopsided score.

Trailing by 10 at intermission, 35-25, the Broncos saw the Owls (6-4) blow the game open with a 21-2 run to start the second half. DeLaHoussaye hit a Bronco basket at 18:12, but then WMU went on almost a seven minute drought without a field goal.

Senior guard Carrie Moore broke the silence at 11:18 with a jumper from the foul line. It just happened to be her only field goal of the night.

In a contest that was supposed to produce a shootout between two of the nation's leading scorers, Moore and Temple's Kamesha Hairston, ranking first and fourth in scoring average, respectively, it was the Owl's Lady Comfort who stole the show. Comfort led the game with 22 points, on 8-of-19 shooting, and collected seven rebounds. Most of those points came down low, as Temple outscored WMU in the paint, 40-18. The Owls also owned the advantage on the glass, 57-35.

Western Michigan shot just over 15 percent from the floor in the second half, and 22 percent on the night ? its lowest total of the season.

A bright spot for the Broncos was DeLaHoussaye, who turned in a solid 10-point effort, while tallying three assists and three steals. Amanda Parker chipped in eight points and six boards. Moore was held to a season-low six points.

WMU closes out the month with two homes games, hosting Chicago State on Dec. 22 and Maryland Eastern-Shore on Dec. 30.
