OXFORD, Ohio (Jan. 20) ? Facing one of its toughest road tests of the season, Western Michigan fell to third-ranked Miami, 6-1, Friday evening before a capacity crowd of 2,850 at Goggin Arena.  The Central Collegiate Hockey Association series continues tomorrow at 7:35 p.m.  The RedHawks entered with a seven-point lead in the CCHA
standings.

The RedHawks (16-4-4/13-3-2 CCHA) blew the game open with four goals in the second period.  The brother tandem of Matt and Nathan Davis scored goals 48 seconds apart.  Junior F Geoff Smith provided three assists while captain Andy Greene assisted on the first two goals, both power play tallies.

Brent Walton redirected a Daryl Moore shot in the second period to register his team-leading 17th goal.  Walton has five goals in his last three games.  With the loss, Western Michigan (5-15-3/5-10-2 CCHA) remains in the CCHA cellar.

"It was a 2-1 game when they (Miami) really took it to another level," said WMU coach Jim Culhane.  "I thought we came out really well, but was disappointed we didn't execute on the power play."

G Daniel Bellissimo, who has been battling a groin injury, was replaced in the third period by Eric Marvin.
