LANSING, Mich. – The Western Michigan University women's golf team played a rain-shortened 36 holes at the Mary Fossum Invitational on Sunday and Monday.

The Broncos finished 12^th of 15 teams in the field at the tournament hosted by Michigan State on Monday afternoon. WMU had rounds of 324 (+36) and 317 (+29) over the two days to end the tournament at 65 over par. Junior Lauren Lupinek remained the Brown and Gold's highest individual finisher with rounds of 77-79 to finish at 12 above par with 156 strokes to tie for 24^th.

Delaware was the team winner of the Mary Fossum Invitational, ending the tournament at 23 above par after rounds of 298-301 to narrowly beat out Central Michigan. The Blue Hens also had the winning individual player of the tournament in sophomore Rhianna Gooneratne. The second year golfer led the entire field with two rounds of 72 to finish the tournament at par.

While Lupinek led Western Michigan overall, freshman Annie Flavin had the Broncos lowest second round on Monday. Flavin carded a round of 77 (+5) to finish the tournament at 158 (+14), moving 12 spots up the individual leaderboard to tie for 38^th.

WMU's final three golfers all finished within a stroke of each other. Junior Saanvi Venkatesh had the third lowest score for the Brown and Gold with rounds of 80-81 to finish at 163 (+19). Behind her was sophomore Danielle Daniy who recorded rounds of 84-80 for a final score of 164 (+20). Freshman Abigail Stendahl rounded out Western Michigan's team finishers with a total of 165 (+21) after carding rounds of 84-81.

The Broncos will be back in action exactly a week from today at the Diane Thomason Invitational. WMU returns to the tournament hosted by Iowa for the second straight season which runs from Monday, September 28 to Tuesday, September 29. The Diane Thomason Invitational will be a 56-hole tournament at Davenport Country Club in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
