Drew Martin and Heidi Thomasma Set to Return for Women's Soccer

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer program and head coach Lewis Robinson are excited to announce the return of graduate students Drew Martin and Heidi Thomasma for the 2026 season. Martin and Thomasma have spent the last four seasons with WMU, winning five MAC Championships (three regular season, two tournament).

"Heidi and Drew have been integral to our program and its success, both on and off the field, throughout their time as Broncos," Robinson said. "We are excited to welcome them back for the 2026 season. Their experience, talent, and leadership will make an immediate impact on our team."

Martin racked up the accolades as a senior in 2025, securing the MAC Midfielder of the Year award and First Team All-Conference honors. She set the program's single-season record for assists (13), which helped her earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region and Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 Player recognition. She was just as good in the classroom, collecting College Sports Communicators Academic All-American honors following the season.

Overall, Martin was second on the team with 23 points on five goals and 13 assists in 2025. She started all 21 games, scoring two-game winning goals in more than 1500 minutes of game action.

Thomasma spearheaded one of the top defensive units in the country, while also providing an offensive spark. The Grand Rapids, Mich. was a United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection, an All-MAC Second Team honoree and was named the MAC Tournament MVP. She was also great academically, earning CSC Academic All-District honors.

Thomasma and the Bronco defense allowed just 17 goals in 2025, which included 10 shutouts. Offensively, she added three goals, including the game-winning tally in the MAC Championship victory over Bowling Green. Thomasma played every minute of every game during the 2025 campaign.

The Broncos are off to another strong start in 2026, collecting exhibition wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Oakland. The Brown and Gold are set to host Saginaw Valley State tonight at the WMU Soccer Complex to cap off exhibition play. WMU's season opener will take place on Aug. 18 in Honolulu, Hawaii against Idaho.
