Turner Doran Tabbed for Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

DALLAS – Western Michigan fifth-year right-hander Turner Doran is one of 61 relief pitchers from across the country to be named to the midseason watch list for the 21st annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year award. Doran is one of 18 players from the preseason watch list to have made the cut for the midseason list.

Doran is the Mid-American Conference leader with eight saves, which also has him tied for 13th in all of NCAA Division I. The righty's eight saves are the fourth-most in a single season in Western Michigan program history, while his 12 career saves for the Brown and Gold are tied for fourth-most all-time. In addition to his eight saves, he worked 2.1 innings without allowing an earned run to collect the win in WMU's upset victory over Pittsburgh during Opening Weekend.

Tied for second on the Broncos with 15 appearances this year, Doran owns a 3.54 ERA in 20.1 innings of work and has collected 19 strikeouts. He has contributed to a WMU pitching staff which ranks second in the conference in overall ERA at 5.73, and owns a league-best 4.21 mark in MAC play, which is more than a full run lower than the next closest team.

Western Michigan returns to Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field this weekend to open up a six-game homestand with a series against Kent State. First pitch for Friday's series opener against the Golden Flashes is set for 3:05 pm. For tickets to any WMU baseball home game, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
