CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior first baseman
Avery Thielman has been named the MAC Player of the Week for the week ending on April 19, the league office announced on Monday. Thielman is the first Bronco to receive a Player of the Week honor this season.
Thielman had a big weekend at the plate for the Broncos in their series win at Eastern Michigan, going 7-for-12 (.583) with three home runs, eight RBIs, a .643 on-base percentage and a 1.417 slugging percentage against the Eagles.
After WMU dropped Friday's series opener, Thielman had a pair of hits on Saturday, including an early three-run homer to help the Brown and Gold grab the early advantage in a 12-7 win. The Kalamazoo native then capped his weekend by going 4-for-4 and reaching in all five of his trips to the plate in Sunday's rubber match, posting his first career multi-homer game and a career-high five RBIs in Western Michigan's series-securing victory.
Thielman and the Broncos conclude their road swing on Tuesday with a visit to Valparaiso. First pitch is set for 4 pm on
