Hampton Slukynsky Selected as NCHC Goaltender of the Month

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore Hampton Slukynsky was named the NCHC Goaltender of the Month, the league announced this afternoon.

Slukynsky was sensational throughout January, posting a 7-1-0 record to go along with a 1.75 goals against average and .945 save percentage. In eight games, the Warroad, Minn. native was able to make 241 saves and notched two shutouts.

He opened the month by blanking Notre Dame in a home-and-home series on Jan. 2-3. Slukynsky stopped all 51 shots he saw in the series. He wasn't done there, as he followed that up with a career-best effort in a series sweep at No. 7 Denver the following week. He tallied a career-high 35 saves in each game against the Pioneers to vault the Broncos up in the polls.

Despite an off week in the schedule, the Los Angeles Kings draft pick stayed hot, securing a pair of wins at No. 6 Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 23-24. Slukynsky made 64 stops, including three in the extra session of the Jan. 24 overtime thriller.

He concluded the month with a pair of 28-save performances against Omaha, splitting the weekend against the Mavericks. Slukynsky made 28 saves or more in all but one game during the month of January. His 241 saves were 76 more than the next highest player in the league for the month.

The impressive stretch has helped Slukynsky improve his season numbers. He has 19 wins with a 2.43 GAA and .910 save percentage. He has three shutouts, 638 total saves and two assists this season.

Slukynsky and the Broncos will look to keep their momentum going, traveling to Oxford, Ohio to battle with Miami this weekend. WMU has lost to the RedHawks just once over the last 22 meetings. The Brown and Gold swept Miami at Lawson Arena earlier this season. The two teams will open the series on Feb. 6 at 7 PM at Goggin Ice Center.
