KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics meet heads to Eastern Michigan to take on the Eagles and Illinois State on Friday night at 6 p.m.
The meet can be watched live on ESPN3. Wilberforce was also scheduled to compete but had to forfeit due to illness.Â
LAST WEEK
The Broncos posted a season-best team score of 195.825 and handed Ball State its first loss in conference competition.Â
The meet was highlighted by the team posting its best beam performance of the year with a 49.125. Junior
Julie Korfhage scored 9.900 to take second place, it was WMU's first 9.900 of the season and the first of Korhfage's career. The Broncos also had a strong showing on floor with a season-best score of 49.150, led by Korfhage and
Brooke Gelesko's 9.850's. The pair tied for first place, with Korfhage posting new career-high.Â
CONSISTENCY
After falling short of team scores of 195.000 or higher in the first four meets of the season, the Broncos have hit the mark in each of its last four.Â
Last weekend, WMU scored a season-best of 195.825. Back on Feb. 15 against No. 11 Michigan State and No. 24 Maryland, the Broncos scored a 195.225. On Feb. 6, in wins over Northern Illinois and West Virginia, Western Michigan reached a 195.570. The team's first score of 195.000 or higher came back on Feb. 1 with a 195.500 in wins over Bowling Green, Greenville and UW-Eau Claire.Â
PODIUM TIME!
Western Michigan has its final two home meets next Friday and Sunday. Both will be podium meets, with WMU welcoming Illinois State on Friday at 5 p.m. and then on Sunday against Kent State at 12 p.m. Western Michigan will honor its seniors after Sunday's meet with the Golden Flashes.Â
