KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team heads on the road to the University of Wisconsin to take on the Badgers on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET and Omaha on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Badgers are 2-1 on the season so far with a 4-3 win at SMU, a 7-0 win over Chicago State, and a 6-1 loss at No. 16 Baylor. The Mavericks are 0-3 and still searching for their first win. UNO opened the season with a pair of 7-0 losses at Nebraska in a double-header with the Cornhuskers. Last Saturday, the team hosted Wichita State and fell 5-2.
LAST WEEK
The Broncos picked up their first true road win of the season, defeating Butler 6-1. The Broncos earned the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches. Junior Alex Antonopolous played his first career match as WMU's No. 1 singles player and picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Nicholas Arts. In addition to Antonopolous,
Ashton Adesoro and
Jonas Keck both had to win in three sets.
3'S, 4'S and 6's
Through six dual matches so far this season, Western Michigan's No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions have been stellar. Broncos have suffered losses just once in each spot, going a combined 14-3. Junior
Oscar Corwin is 2-0 at No. 3 and 1-0 at No. 4 so far this season.
Jonas Keck is 3-1 at No. 6, while
Dimitri Moriarty is 1-0 at both No. 4 and 6.
Matej Kajzer has the most wins at No. 4, going 201 so far this season.
ON THE HORIZON
The Broncos are back on the road next weekend, heading to Purdue University. WMU takes on the Boilermakers on Friday at 4 p.m. and then battles Yale on Saturday at 2 p.m.
