Western Michigan continues its stretch of four out of five at home on Tuesday evening as it welcomes UMass to University Arena. WMU is 6-2 at home so far this season while going just 1-7 on the road.
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos are coming off of their first conference victory of the season after rallying in the second half to beat Eastern Michigan, 79-62. WMU trailed by six, 36-30, at the break, but outscored the Eagles 49-26 in the second half to collect the victory, marking the third time this season Western Michigan has turned a halftime deficit into a victory.
Jalen Griffith led the charge for the Brown and Gold with 21 points, a career-high six rebounds and five assists, while
Jayden Brewer tallied 12 points and
Carson Vis tied his career high with 11 points.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
Western Michigan had one of its most dominant displays on the glass so far this season on Saturday, outdueling Eastern Michigan on the boards, 39-25. It was truly a team effort for the Brown and Gold, with all nine players who saw the court securing at least two rebounds. Leading the charge on the boards were
Jayden Brewer and
Max Burton, who tallied eight rebounds apiece, and
Jalen Griffith, who grabbed a career-high six. The Broncos are fourth in the league in overall rebounding at 38.1 per game, second in MAC play at 37.5 per game and are tied for the league lead in offensive rebounding in conference play at 13.5 per contest.
BALANCED BRONCOS
All nine players who saw the court for Western Michigan on Saturday scored and seven of the nine had at least seven points in the victory. The Brown and Gold have featured a balanced attack all season long, with 11 different Broncos having scored in double-figures at least once, and five having posted at least one game with 20 or more points. Leading the charge with 10 double-digit scoring performances apiece are
Jayden Brewer and
Jalen Griffith. Six different players have been WMU's top scorer in a game so far this season, led by Griffith, who paced the team in scoring for the eighth time with his 21 points on Saturday.
GRIFF GETTING IT DONE
Jalen Griffith continues to fill up the stats sheet for the Broncos, and tallied 21 points, a career-high six rebounds and five assists in Saturday's win over EMU. It marked the second time this season the junior has put together a 10-5-5 game, having also done so with 28 points, a career-high 10 assists and five rebounds in the Dec. 6 victory at SIUE. The junior has been in double-figures 10 times, led Western Michigan in scoring a team-high eight times and has recorded five or more assists in seven contests in 2025-26. Griffith leads WMU in both categories, ranking 10th in the MAC in scoring (15.5 PPG) and eighth in assists (4.3 APG).
LET JAYDEN BREW
Jayden Brewer nearly collected his fifth double-double of the season on Saturday, notching 12 points and eight rebounds in the victory over Eastern Michigan. The FIU transfer has been a key addition for the Broncos this season, ranking second on the team and 17th in the conference in scoring at 13.3 points per game, and also leading the Brown and Gold and sitting fifth in the league in rebounding at 7.6 per contest. The senior hit the 1,000-point mark for his career last Tuesday at Miami, and will hit another milestone against UMass, which is set to be his 100th game as a collegian.
DEFENDING THE ARC
WMU has stepped up its defense of the three-point line in conference play and held its last three opponents all under 25.0 percent from distance. After limiting Eastern Michigan to 6-of-26 (.231) on Saturday, the Brown and Gold are allowing MAC opponents to hit just 25.7 percent from downtown, the best mark in the conference.
