KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team returns home for a match against Detroit Mercy on Sunday at the WMU Soccer complex. The game is set to begin at 1 PM.
LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan earned its second win of the season on Aug. 31, defeating Michigan by a final score of 2-1.
The Brown and Gold got goals from
Mikayla Coore-Pascal and
Drew Martin. Both of those goals came in the first 15 minutes of the match.
Abby Werthman and
Avery Peters notched assists in the triumph.
In net,
Reagan Sulaver tallied four saves and secured her second consecutive win.
MAC SWEEP
After an undefeated week on the field, WMU was able to sweep the weekly MAC awards.
Drew Martin earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week after notching two goals, including the game winner against Michigan.
Mira Pierre-Webster was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week, limiting Creighton and Michigan to just one goal in two games.
Reagan Sulaver picked up Goalkeeper of the Week honors, securing her first career win and shutout against Creighton. She then made four saves to collect a victory over Michigan.
MAGNIFICENT MIKAYLA
Transferring in from Kansas,
Mikayla Coore-Pascal has become an offensive weapon for the Broncos. The Canadian forward notched three points last week, tallying an assist on the game-winning goal against Creighton and scoring in a victory over Michigan.
She is tied for the team lead in shots on goal (3) and is third on the team in points (3). Coore-Pascal has started all four games and has played 233 minutes this season.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy picked up a win in its first game, but the Titans have now lost five consecutive matches. In that losing streak, UDM has been outscored by a total of 20-2.
WMU leads the all-time series, 6-5-1, including a 4-2 record in Kalamazoo. The two teams met last season, with the Brown and Gold earning a 3-0 victory. The Titans' last victory over WMU came back in 2003.
Abbey Lodato has provided much of the offense for Detroit Mercy, entering Sunday's matchup with three goals. Jada Rivera has the only other goal this season.
In net, Chantelle Symes and Eva Hill have split time. Symes has started three games, while Hill has started two. Symes has a 1-2 record, 4.40 goals against average and .500 save percentage. Hill has produced an 0-2 record, 3.20 GAA and .680 save percentage.
