KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team makes its return home after three weeks away on Monday night.
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos wrapped up a tough stretch of matches at No. 23 Cornell on Saturday, Sept. 13 with a 3-0 loss. While WMU's offense improved on its two-shot performance at No. 3 Akron, the Brown and Gold weren't able to get past Big Red goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg for a goal. The Broncos were led by forwardÂ
Jonathan Stout with three shots and two on goal. While goalkeeperÂ
Timi Adams was credited with the loss, starting the game in net as two goals went past him and Adams made two saves.
RETURN TO THE FARM
After three weeks away, Western Michigan return home to WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos spent their longest stretch on the road this season with a difficult trio of opponents. WMU faced back-to-back ranked teams in No. 3 Akron and No. 23 Cornell. The last time Western Michigan played two ranked opponents in a row during the regular season was in 2017 when the Broncos lost to No. 6 Michigan State but came back with a big 1-0 win over No. 8 Akron.
Along with the ranked opponents, WMU struggled in enemy territory ending the road trip with a 0-3 record. The Brown and Gold will hope that a return to playing in front of their home crowd will help propel them to their second win of the season.
MVC-LEADING ACCURACY
With conference play beginning this week, Western Michigan currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference in an important statistical category. The Broncos lead the MVC in shot accuracy after seven matches, placing 47.8% of their shots on goal. The next closest team to WMU is the Drake Bulldogs as they are just behind the Brown and Gold with an accuracy of 47.4%.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Adrian is Western Michigan's only non-Division I opponent of the 2025 season. The Bulldogs are a Division III member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and come into Monday's match with a 2-5 record. Adrian is currently on a two game losing skid with a 3-0 loss to Wilmington and a 5-0 loss to Lawrence Tech.Â
The Bulldogs are led by a trio of players with a goal each in senior midfielder Owen Emert, senior forward Kyle Jennings, and sophomore forward Kyle Peterson. Only three other players on the team have recorded a point with an assist. In goal Adrian has turned to sophomore Eli Sizemore as he has appeared and started in six games for the Bulldogs. Sizemore holds a 2-4 record with a 1.33 goals against average and a 78.4 save percentage.Â
