WMU Volleyball Announces All-Decade Team

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball program has announced its seven-member All-Decade Team, which covers the program's 2014 to 2024 seasons. Selected to the All-Decade Team were Lexie Pawlik (2013-14), Sydney LeMay (2014-17), Kathleen Reilly (2016-19), Rachel Bontrager (2017-20), Maggie King (2019-23), Logan Case (2020-24) and Andelyn Simkins (2020-24). The seven-member All-Decade Team will be honored at Western Michigan's home match against Kent State on Saturday, November 8.

A setter from Granger, Ind., Pawlik was an All-MAC First Team selection in both of her seasons with the Brown and Gold. In 2014, she handed out 1,552 assists, which ranks as the second-most in a single-season in program history. That season, Pawlik was named MAC Tournament MVP after helping the fifth-seeded Broncos win four matches in four days to capture their first MAC Tournament title since 2000. She was also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.

LeMay, a middle blocker from Middleville, Mich., was a freshman on the 2014 MAC Championship team and burst onto the scene that year, becoming the fourth straight Bronco to be named the MAC Freshman of the Year. A four-time First Team All-MAC selection, LeMay joined Pawlik on the All-Tournament Team at the 2014 MAC Championship after helping the Brown and Gold to the title. She finished her career fourth on Western Michigan's all-time kills list, and currently ranks sixth with 1,441. She is also in the top-10 all-time at WMU in career hitting percentage, solo blocks, block assists and total blocks, and was a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree.

Reilly came to Western Michigan from Overland Park, Kan., and left it as just the third player in program history to tally more than 2,000 digs. She amassed a total of 2,342 digs for the Brown and Gold, the third-most in program history. An All-Freshman Team selection in her first season in 2016, she continued to build on that foundation and was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and an AVCA All-Region selection her senior year. Along the way, she earned a spot on the 2017 MAC Championship All-Tournament Team after helping the sixth-seeded Broncos all the way to the championship match. Reilly also excelled off the court, earning three Academic All-MAC selections.

An outside hitter from Valparaiso, Ind., Bontrager racked up 1,656 kills in four seasons with the Broncos, a total which ranked second in program history at the conclusion of her career. She still holds the WMU career record for kills per set at 3.82. Bontrager earned three All-MAC First Team selections and was named the 2020 MAC Player of the Year after helping the Brown and Gold to the MAC West title. Following the 2020 season (which was played in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19), Bontrager became the first All-American for the program since the 1980's after earning the honor from both the AVCA and VolleyballMag.com. She picked up two MAC Championship All-Tournament Team nods, collected three Academic All-MAC selections and was a 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honoree.

King, an outside hitter from Cincinnati, was a four-time First Team All-MAC selection for the Broncos. During her career she racked up 1,849 career kills, surpassing her former teammate Bontrager for second-most in WMU history. In her final season, the Brown and Gold went a perfect 18-0 in conference play to give Western Michigan its first outright regular season MAC title since 2008. The Broncos went on to host and win the MAC Tournament, punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. WMU then scored a first round upset of No. 7 seed Auburn for its first NCAA Tournament victory since the 2008 squad reached the Sweet Sixteen. King was also a four-time Academic All-MAC honoree and two-time Academic All-District selection.

A Maineville, Ohio, native, Case left Kalamazoo in 2024 after becoming the most decorated setter in Mid-American Conference history. The all-time assists leader in both WMU and MAC history, Case was a five-time First Team All-MAC selection, three-time MAC Setter of the Year, the 2020 MAC Freshman of the Year and the 2023 MAC Player of the Year. She was also a 2023 AVCA and VolleyballMag.com All-American, three-time All-Region honoree and two-time MAC Tournament MVP after helping the Broncos win the MAC Tournament in both 2023 and 2024. Off of the court, she was a four-time Academic All-MAC honoree, three-time Academic All-District selection and became the first player in program history to be named an Academic All-American three years in a row.

Case totaled 6,476 assists as a Bronco, which set new program and conference records, and rank as the fifth-most in NCAA Division I history. She also left as WMU's record holder for career assists per set, matches played, sets played and double-doubles. During her final season, she also eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark and her 1,336 career digs rank ninth all-time at Western Michigan.

A local product from right down the road in Schoolcraft, Simkins came to WMU as an outside hitter before switching over to libero during the latter stages of the 2021 campaign. By the time she concluded her career as a Bronco, she had racked up numerous accolades, including winning back-to-back MAC Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024. Simkins also earned pair of All-MAC First Team selections, was named a 2023 VolleyballMag.com Honorable Mention All-American and received a pair of MAC All-Tournament Team nods in 2023 and 2024 as WMU captured back-to-back conference tournament crowns. She also collected three CSC Academic All-District selections and four Academic All-MAC accolades. During her final season in Kalamazoo, Simkins became just the fourth player in program history to record more than 2,000 digs, ending up with 2,262 for her career. She also ranks fourth all-time at Western Michigan in digs per set and service aces.

The All-Decade Team was chosen by a committee consisting of WMU head coach Colleen Munson, associate head coach Ryan Manning, volleyball alum Katharine Hermsen, former Kalamazoo Gazette beat writer Paul Morgan and WMU's volleyball SID Rob Low.
