Men's Basketball Inks FIU Transfer Jayden Brewer

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball program and head coach Dwayne Stephens have announced the signing of Jayden Brewer, a transfer from FIU. Brewer is the 10th newcomer the Broncos have signed for the 2025-26 season, joining fellow transfers Jalen Griffith, Trey Lewis, Declan Peterson, Hudson Ward and Justice Williams, as well as incoming freshmen Sharod Barnes (Ypsilanti, Mich.), Brady Swartz (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Camden Thompson (Whitehall, Mich.) and Carson Vis (Byron Center, Mich.).

"Jayden is a proven scorer and is extremely versatile on both ends of the floor," Coach Stephens said. "He will elevate our team with his athleticism, energy and experience. Jayden has taken big leaps in every year of his career thus far, and we are incredibly excited to welcome him to the Bronco family!"

Brewer joins the Broncos after spending the first three seasons of his collegiate career at FIU. In three years with the Panthers, Brewer played in 84 games, started 29, and averaged 9.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and shot 49.7 percent from the field.

He is coming off of a junior campaign during which he ranked eighth in Conference USA in scoring at 14.5 points per game and earned All-CUSA Honorable Mention. He connected on 48.0 percent of his field goal attempts, the fourth-best mark in the conference, and was also among the league leaders in both free throws made and attempted.

During his sophomore season with the Panthers, Brewer played in 34 games and also made the first start of his collegiate career. He poured in double-digit points 12 times and averaged 8.4 points per contest. The 6-6 guard made 19 appearances off of the bench as a true freshman in 2022-23, notching 4.5 points in just 8.6 minutes per game. That season, he connected on 65.5 percent from the floor and made 76.5 percent from the free throw line.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Brewer scored more than 1,000 points in his career at Ben Davis High School, helping lead the team to a sectional title. He earned a Third Team All-County selection and Indiana All-State Honorable Mention accolades after averaging 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals while shooting 66.6 percent from the floor in his final season.

Brewer then spent the 2021-22 campaign at Combine Academy in North Carolina, where he paced the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game and helped the Goats to a National Prep Showcase title. His 723 points accumulated during that season marked the second-best, single-season scoring total in program history. Along the way, he registered a 40-point performance and a pair of triple-doubles.
